High-performance aerosol and bulk spray adhesives for upholstery, foam bonding, headliner, and embroidery applications. Consistent spray pattern with adjustable tack levels.

Spray adhesive is a contact-type bonding agent delivered through an aerosol can or bulk spray gun system. The adhesive is atomized into fine droplets that coat the substrate surface in a thin, uniform layer, creating a tacky film that bonds on contact when two coated surfaces are pressed together. This application method provides several key advantages over brush-applied or roller-applied adhesives: faster coverage of large surface areas, more uniform film thickness, reduced adhesive consumption per square meter, and the ability to bond porous and irregular substrates without excessive adhesive buildup.
The underlying chemistry of spray adhesive is similar to contact adhesive — typically based on SBS (styrene-butadiene-styrene) rubber, synthetic rubber blends, or chloroprene rubber dissolved in a solvent carrier. The key difference lies in the viscosity formulation and delivery system. Spray adhesives are formulated at lower viscosities to pass through spray nozzles, and aerosol versions include a propellant (CFC-free DME or LPG blends) that atomizes the adhesive upon dispensing. The spray pattern — web spray, mist spray, or fan spray — is controlled by nozzle design and can be adjusted to suit different substrates and bonding requirements.
PACT manufactures spray adhesive in two primary formats, each suited to different production scales and operational requirements.
Aerosol spray adhesive is packaged in pressurized cans (450ml, 550ml, 650ml) with integrated spray nozzles. The self-contained format requires no additional equipment — simply shake the can and spray. Coverage ranges from 3-5 m² per 550ml can depending on substrate porosity and coating thickness. Aerosol spray adhesive is ideal for small to medium workshops, field installation work, touch-up operations, and production lines processing fewer than 20-30 units per day. The adjustable nozzle allows operators to switch between web spray pattern (for large, flat surfaces) and concentrated spray (for edges and detail work). Our aerosol cans use CFC-free propellants compliant with international environmental regulations.
For high-volume production, bulk spray adhesive is supplied in 20-liter drums or 200-liter barrels for application through industrial spray gun systems. Bulk format usually lowers the adhesive cost per bonded area compared to aerosol cans, because none of the price goes on the can, valve and propellant, and it provides more consistent application across production runs. Spray guns offer adjustable pressure, fan width, and flow rate controls for precise adhesive deposition. Bulk spray adhesive is the standard format for mattress factories, sofa production lines, and automotive trim shops processing hundreds of units daily.
| Format | Suits | Watch for |
|---|---|---|
| Aerosol can | Low volume, site work, touch-up | Highest cost per m² — part of the price is can, valve and propellant; cold cans spray poorly; ships as UN 1950 aerosols |
| Refillable canister with hose and gun | Workshops and installers between aerosol and full production volume | Canister return logistics, hose cleaning, and which formulations are offered this way |
| Drum with pressure pot or pump | Production lines | Equipment, cleaning routine, operator training and vapour extraction |
Decide on cost per bonded square metre at the coat weight your product needs, plus waste, cleaning and downtime — not on price per litre. A bulk grade is also not simply the aerosol without the can: the two are formulated for different spraying conditions, so trial the format you will actually run.
Our listed aerosol and bulk spray adhesives are solvent-borne. Water-based foam and upholstery adhesives are sprayed from bulk systems — often two-component, with an activator that makes them grab at once — and need wetted parts that suit water, protection from freezing and more drying time. See water-based foam and upholstery adhesives for what to check before switching a line.
Spray adhesive excels in applications requiring fast, uniform coverage over large surface areas and bonding of flexible or porous materials. The primary industrial applications include:
It depends on the format, because the two formats fall under different rules. An aerosol spray adhesive in a non-refillable can is outside the VOC limits of California's SCAQMD Rule 1168; its VOC content is regulated under the California Air Resources Board consumer products regulation instead. The same kind of adhesive applied in bulk through a spray gun is inside Rule 1168, where foam bonding falls under the plastic foams category at 50 g/L less water and exempt compounds.
Our listed aerosol grades are solvent-borne. Where a factory or a customer specification limits solvent at the spray station, the usual route is a water-based dispersion sprayed in bulk, which changes the gun, the drying time and the glue-line feel as well as the adhesive. For the limits themselves see VOC limits by market, and for the other product lines low VOC adhesives by product line.
Our Guangzhou production facility includes a dedicated aerosol filling line with capacity exceeding 50,000 cans per day, alongside bulk adhesive blending and filling equipment for drum formats. Quality control procedures include spray pattern testing, tack time measurement, bond strength testing on standard substrates, and accelerated aging tests to verify shelf life claims. We offer full OEM and private label services for spray adhesive including custom formulation, can design, label printing, nozzle selection, and branded outer carton packaging. Whether you need 5,000 cans for a regional distributor launch or 500,000 cans for a national brand, our production capacity and export logistics can meet your requirements.
